Last Wednesday evening me and Gem rocked up to Moles - quite early I must add which not only allowed us to get to the bar but meant we also got a limited edition poster too. Score.
Then Ben Howard, joined by his Cellist and bassist India and drummer and double bassist Chris came on stage and wowed the crowd for just over an hour with nothing but beautiful songs and incredible guitar playing. We were like putty in his hands. He has a voice that could melt every bar of chocolate in Cadbury's world...he was amazing. I don't think he was expecting everyone to go as mental as they did for the song "Wolves" off his first EP "Still waters", but it was nice to see him and the rest of his band so happy and just 'going with it'. You could clearly see they were having a ball.
Afterwards me and Gem went to talk to him outside and got our Cd's signed (yes - simple things like CD signings do still make me happy even at 25 years old). It wasn't the first time Gem had met him, but it was mine and he was absolutely lovely to chat to and made time to talk to his fans (not just us!)
Not only was it an excellent gig but we got some lovely Ben Howard t-shirts too. Nothing like a good bit of merchandise to finish off the evening! So, on reflection, if you have the chance to see Ben and think you'll like listening to his acoustic, chocolate melting tones, then go. You won't be disappointed.
